Wanna be my Valentine?
Well its that time of year again... Pay 10x the normal price for roses that will die in 2 days or go to dinner for a prix fixed average menu...its such a hallmark holiday. HELLLLOOOOO?? Its not ok to just show your love one day of the year, what about the other 364? Nonetheless, its coming and is a little less than 2 weeks away... On a daily basis, the three constants in my life are my family, exercise and "work"...You'll notice, I often put work in quotes because its fun and flexible and allows plenty of time for my other two loves!!! January of 2013 I started Crossfit... As you all know, people who do crossfit talk a whole lot about crossfit, its what we do!! What is it you ask?? Here you go.... copy and pasted...its the best I could find. Its my crack addiction...I LOVE CROSSFIT!
CrossFit is a program developed to offer a full-body workout that combines elements of cardio, weight lifting, gymnastics, core training and more to prepare the body for the unexpected.
According to the CrossFit website: "CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide."
This high-intensity workout is extremely varied and all about getting the most bang for your workout buck. A CrossFitter will likely never do the same routine twice in one week and each workout will usually last between 45 minutes to an hour.
With that being said, I am a 5'2 muscular girl, far from graceful... so this morning when I threw a curve ball into my daily routine and tried a new Barre studio, I was skeptical. I have done Barre method work outs before... one for a while then when that was no longer available, I found another but it just never clicked for me. I felt like a fish out of water.
Zoe and I got geared up to try Barre 3 in Berwyn.... I had done some research over the last few days... if I'm giving up my Thursday morning Crossfit workout, it better be good. Knowing they have childcare was a HUGE plus so I went in with a good attitude! I was greeted by a little ray of sunshine "Becca" when I walked in the door... she introduced herself and I instantly felt as ease. After getting Zoe settled, I went into the studio and we began. Becca was the instructor (and the owner)...she explained everything she was doing and about 10 minutes in the sweat started dripping... My legs shook, even with the tiniest movement, lifting 2 pound weights, my arms quivered...OMG I throw around a 36 pound kettle bell in Crossfit and don't ever quiver...this is insane!!! It was literally the quickest hour of my life!!
I give Barre 3 FIVE STARS...from the front desk, to childcare to Becca and her cuteness buzzing all over the place, I will definitely be working this into my routine... I think it will be the perfect compliment to my Crossfit workouts!!
What is the "barre 3" I speak of? Pilates and yoga meet barre method (in my own words) Oh you want a technical description? Yep, copied an pasted...

I have no idea where I heard it but it was a long long time ago, and I stored it away until my late 30's (ugh I hate how that sounds!) Its a rule that states to NEVER wear a style twice...in other words, If you wore stirrup pants in the 80's and they come back again when you are 35, chances are, you are too old to rock that look. Some may disagree and thats fine, BUT this is a rule I live by and for me its a non-negotiable. With that being said, spring 2014 crop tops are all the rage... I'm now 41, needless to say I won't be partaking in this look but I want to SOOOOO bad... I think it is ADORABLE... the runway and look books I'm seeing are so much cuter than we had in the 90's. I stand by my word (and my not flat stomach) that I WILL NOT wear a crop top BUT I'm going to give you all a way to wear this trend a little more age appropriate.
A couple of years ago I was in an outlet and saw an adorable Alice and Olivia $300 shirt on a clearance rack 75% off...I thought it was cute but it wasn't necessarily what was "on trend" but I grabbed it anyway... I CANNOT WAIT to wear this shirt this season... Its a boxy fit "croppish" top. Doesn't show any skin, but has the same look as a crop top would ...I'm pairing it with a fabulous new Stella and Dot Georgie statement necklace, black pants (kind of a jogging style but silk) and gold pointy Guissepe Zannoti pumps... here are the pieces, I've made the outfit in my head and will share a picture when I wear it... Do you love the crop look but want to follow my rule?? Buy any boxy style shirt and have it hemmed just at your waistline... It will give you that more age appropriate, haha I'm a mom and I can wear this too look!!!

Are diamonds really a girls best friend?!!
So they say, "diamonds are a girls best friend", but I beg to differ. I love a big clear sparkler just as much as the next girl.... I drool over De Beers, Hail to Harry Winston, and curtsy to cartier but really?! What are the chances of those brands making their way into my suburban mommy life? SLIM TO NONE!!! And the truth of the matter for me is the bigger the better, I like big chunky jewels, so a Tiffany Diamond is probably not in my future! I'm ok with it... The moral of this story you ask? Diamond earrings. Do you have them? Do you want them? I do not, but I have a few girl friends that have beautiful ones or have a pair or 50 in their Pinterest jewelry box! If we're being honest, they scare me. Something that costs the price a car in my ears? What if I lose one? What if they don't match my outfit? Well now I'm reaching, but you get the point...
You know where this is going... if you covet a pair and they aren't in your budget, I can help you... first of course, I have to show you the droolers I found on Pinterest... OMG they really are insane. If I had them I would show everyone who would look... haha I'm picturing me being rung up at target saying to the cashier, "excuse me, did you notice my earrings? They are real." Haha, the thought of that made me laugh out loud.

My love for Stella and Dot...
In the summer of 2012, I decided after being a stay at home mom for 6 years, I'd try my hands at part time work. Every season I found myself hosting a Stella & Dot home jewelry show for a girlfriend who is a director with the company. After every party, she would go into her recruiter mode trying to sell me on this company she worked for. I listened of course, not only because she is FABULOUS, but because I have such a high level of respect for working moms. A couple of months after her last unsuccessful try at recruiting me, I texted her to tell her I decided I was ready to join her team.
I launched my business in September of 2012 and never looked back... Its been amazing and I've worked minimally so I know I've barely even scratched the surface of what this fabulous company has to offer. I now have 2 girls on my team and another 2 that I am recruiting as we speak! SHHHH don't tell them!!!
I love to shop, and for me it pays to keep this "job" ... every season I look forward to the newest pieces to add to my "samples" which are part of my wardrobe!!! They are all mine and I am sure to wear each and every one of them.
With that being said, I started this blog a several years ago and through a lot of change within myself, my family and now a job, I will be changing the name and making this a blog about my life as a Stella and dot stylist. How I dive off the chair to take pictures of the TV when I see a celebrity wearing one of our pieces, the trials and tribulations of raising two daughters and the importance of raising them into confident well adjusted women, my obsession with all things fashion and of course my newest love, crossfit!! My goal is to make you laugh ALOT, look fabulous and hopefully inspire you a little to take chances and not to take life too seriously. I look forward to our time together...
