Ugh I can't wear shorts, I forgot to shave my legs

Don't you just hate those days?  Summer is upon us and shaving sucks! Lets be honest, it just plain sucks!!  Nine years ago prior to my wedding I have my first run in with a laser machine...I started easy, with the underarms.  It was life changing, I honestly haven't shaved under my arms since my 6th session.  AMAZING results, life changing... About a year ago, I had another run in with a laser machine when my husband Niko and I became part owners of Metro Laser in Exton, PA... is it my passion? That question I can't answer yet, BUT I believe in it and am beyond blessed to have such a quaint business with amazing employees and clients who we consider friends.  Interested in trying laser hair removal or want to see what its all about? Give us a call... we love to chat.  Well, I can't lie...I'm still a very hands on mom to Demi and Zoe, so I'm not there much but my heart is always there.  We're running a Groupon, who doesn't love a GROUPON?!!  Care to check it out, click the link...

Full of useless information...

I just realized, I'm for sure that girl.  We all know one.  She just kinda knows really ridiculous stuff that really means nothing.  For example... my husband and I were talking the other night and he asked me a realtors commission on a property and I blurted out a number.  He gave me that look.  You know it, the look like, really? You made that up.  So what did I do? I pulled out the calculator and showed him that I was right.  I'm a numbers girl.  Ask me a percentage off anything and I have your number.  Not because I'm smart, just because I'm a shopper and I love a deal.  With that said I decided that I'm going to start sharing the knowledge.  Its late, almost 10pm but I will start with telling you that Bloomingdales Friends and Family day ends in 2 hours.  The code is FF14.  See a pair of $250 Tory Burch Sandals you love and can't pull the trigger? Well with this code and free shipping you just scored them for $200. See I told you I was quick!  I'm going to start blogging about these deals... never pay full price, its not fun and you don't have to do it.

Wooo Hoooo! Spring has sprung, finally!

I don't know if its just me, but this has been the longest winter ever. I'm literally counting down the days until spring break so I can be sure to have some sunshine in sunny ARUBA!  It won't be long until we have sunshine and warm weather on the east coast and today I am sharing with you my favorite Spring 2014 "trends"... I put trends in quotes because I'm a true believer that you should wear what you want and what makes you feel your best.  I love the "biker girl" look...it isn't alway on trend but I always put a little edge in my wardrobe.  Its my thing, and you too should have a thing...
My top favorite spring trend is the wide leg pant.  Again, something that is on trend this season but a staple in my closet... my most favorite jeans are called "love story" by J brand... they are a wide leg jean and a perfect addition to your closet.  I just got them in white as well... Right now Bloomingdales is running 25% off if you buy 2 pairs of jeans (just sayin') One thing I don't hesitate to spend money on is jeans.  I bought these years ago, machine wash, and hang dry and they are still in great shape.  They are that jean that can dress up a simple top, heels and a cute accessory.  I highly recommend for the wide leg "trend" pick these up...you won't regret it. And remember, you never have to pay full price... email me, I will find you a deal!
My next favorite is the jumpsuit... in my mind I am 5'10 but in reality I'm 5'2.  I love all things made for models but I am the furthest thing from one and guess what? I still wear them! I love jumpsuits, again these come in and out of "trend".  I wore one for my engagement picture almost 10 years ago and its still in my closet.  I say that like I'm such a sensible shopper, but actually I'm a cross between a hoarder and a hopeless romantic.  Can't part with the outfit that I was wearing when my honey dipped me in the middle of center city Philadelpha!
here it is ....all together...awwwwwww :)

Ok back to jumpsuits, I've bought 2 this season, both black (of course) ...I like to pair them with bold colorful jewelry or shoes and bag so I keep most of my clothing a bit more simple... My favorite one is by young fabulous and broke... this is one of my go to brands that is soooo comfy! I am yet to have his hemmed and its made for a 6'2 model I think! HA!
and my last favorite spring trend is a makeup trend... again, a go to for me but huge on the runway for spring... the dewy skin.  I need to write a whole other post about what products I love to get that Kardashian Glow... which is formerly known as the J-Lo Glow!!  J LO gets full credit in my book, but we've talked about it.  I will leave you with one product that I can't live with out!
MAC mineralize skin finish in soft and gentle...hands down my favorite way to get the glow!!

grab it here, you won't regret it! :)

Happy spring...

Trust me on this one!!

Have you ever walked into a boutique or an unfamiliar store and saw a basic silk blouse and instantly fell in love until you nonchalantly peak at the price and see its upwards of $250!  For some reason, silk is a small fortune... I've fallen in love with a couple brands over the years, Equipment, Parker and Joie to name drop a few but I'll tell you what, I'm protesting the $200 silk blouse starting TODAY!   Why, you ask?!! Well, yesterday I took my 7 year old to the American Girl fashion show (locally, not in NYC) and had a specific look in mind... I wanted to wear a solid silk blouse half tucked into a skinny jean with high boots and a statement necks from Stella and Dot! Sounds easy, right?!!  Not so much... first I picked up a beautiful blue Joie blouse I bought from a local boutique last year for my Christmas pictures.  I only dry clean it and have probably worn it 4 times.  I put it on and there are at least 5 pulls and 3 or 4 little stains. I don't even know what to do with it, do I throw out a shirt that cost that much money? That makes me feel awful! Next I pick up a navy blue Parker number...SAME STORY!! I was beyond annoyed... My number 3 choice was another Joie in black... I see the seam is ripping... seriously?
was this too much to ask for??!!!!

At that point I hit up old faithful... an ivory "portofino" blouse from Express... I have about 5 of these and priced at under $50 and made of silks step sister polyester, it has that feel and look but can be thrown in the washer and tossed if stained or pulled... Did I mention this blouse comes in 4000 colors and patterns?!!  I worked for Express for over a decade and it always drove me crazy how they brought out every color under the sun in the same shirt but in this case, I am thankful... I can pair this with ripped jeans, boots, silver spiky jewels and a leather jacket for a trendy biker chic look, tucked into a pencil skirt for the office, tucked into jeans with a jacket for that "safe" work week look or how I wore my ivory one yesterday with dark blue AG skinnies, my black boots and a blue and purple stone stella and dot statement piece... easy and comfy and I didn't have to worry about ruining it!!!! If you don't own one of these shirts, get on it!! I really do love them and am so happy I had it to throw on.  I put a cami under it yesterday but thats not necessary with all the colors. Click the link here...

With spring only days away, its time to spruce up the spring wardrobe...grab a Portofino or two and pair it with some amazing new Stella & Dot jewels.. I am loving the Aviva chandeliers and the sardinia bracelet in blue!!!

Oscar fever!!!

Yesterday was the perfect day to be sick on the couch! I watched every last second of red carpet leading up to the big show and made it through almost the whole show!  If we're being honest, the only nominated movie I saw was Frozen (2x)...I'm a mommy the only movies I see are with my kids.  When I go out with my husband we like to talk, we never go to the movies, literally the last one we saw was probably 10 years ago.

I'm pretty sure every one who knows anything about movies or fashion was waiting to see what newcomer Lupita Nyong'o was wearing (do I need to even put her last name?!) I myself have fallen in love with Lupita over the course of this awards season... She glammed in gucci, looked lovely in Lauren but I think the Prada number she wore last night stole my heart... it was so her (it was made for her which didn't hurt!) and her heartfelt HONEST, kind appreciative words in her speech secured her spot as a household name for years!!!!  She is such a talent.. and now has the "Oscar award winning" in front of her name!!! If you live under a rock and haven't seen her dress last night here ya go...

Ok now that I got that out of the way, something has been majorly bothering me... I was a huge facebooker forever, stopped cold turkey about 6 months ago (only have business page now). I find myself with so much  more time on my hands and a new love of Instagram.  Seems much less "dramatic" for lack of a better word!  I will confess I follow some interesting people on Instagram.  Three of which are the Kardashians.  I don't faithfully watch the show, unless I'm sick on my couch like yesterday!  I feel like I got my fix for a while prior to the awards!  My point?  On Instagram they have MILLIONS of followers... its insane. I follow people I'm interested in seeing/reading about... doesn't that make sense? Isn't that what people do??? Apparently not... I was reading some of the comments that people write on their pictures and I was mortified... I get it "they ask for it" putting themselves in the public eye.  I see that side of it, but does that make it ok to insult someone publicly? Someones daughter, sister, mother, aunt, friend, wife?  I've had 41 solid years on this earth and have been on both the receiving and giving end of it and have learned my lesson.  A button clicked when I became a mother and I try to put my best foot forward daily... I'm human and of course there are people that I struggle with in life but to publicly call them fat, or ugly? (and those are some of the nicer things I read)
Its just not nice and where I come from, If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all....
Be nice.... life is short.  Come back and see me soon! xo

all fired up...

I swear I get 15 emails daily about the "black and white" trend... news flash people, black and white IS not a trend...its timeless.  So don't believe the hype with all the emails from Neimans, Saks, Express, Shop Bop, just to name a few...you have this "trend" all over your closet... do you own jeans??!! YES.... do you own a black jacket??  YES... do you own a white tank or collared shirt? YES... well there you have it... the "black and white" trend.
This look is a little trendy but cute nonetheless...
in love with all three of these looks!

super timeless? Look no further...

want to throw a perfectly polished statement necklace into the mix?
For under $90 the "Allegra" will match everything in your closet...
         http://www.stelladot.com/shop/en_us/p/jewelry/necklaces/necklaces-all/allegra-necklace

Don't be pressured to buy into the "black and white" trend... everyone can perfect this by simply opening their closet and using a little imagination.... my favorite is to pop in a little color.  To do that without any thought throw the "Mae" into the mix! Red is the perfect pop and this beauty is under $50!
        http://www.stelladot.com/shop/en_us/p/jewelry/necklaces/necklaces-all/mae-necklace

Hope this helps with a fun look...get to work because spring is in less than a month!!
                                                           WOO! HOO!

Is it just me?

Is it just me or are turquoise and yellow about the cutest color combo ever?! Throw a little hot pink in there and I'm literally jumping up and down!! Pathetic I know but this combo is like hearing Will Smith's "Summertime" in April... You hear it and think OMG its that song that sets the season... you hear it on that first warm day and nostalgia sets in of all the wonderful summers in your past.  Colors, scents, styles, they all do it for me... I'm a visual girl so with that said...
tell me I'm wrong?!
I'm going for this look this summer... I love it for the home, wardrobe, wedding colors, the skies the limit... I'll show you a few of my favs and of course a few of the pieces you too can have from the Stella and Dot spring line!
how cute is this board... I mean it says it all. I'm redecorating my very heavy living room which is black and gold like the rest of my boring home! I'm popping bright yellow in...why? Because I can!! HA!

These pillows would brighten up an indoor or outdoor space...

ahhhh this bag... the classic... was sold out all last summer! I kept mine hidden as not to be weak and sell my sample... I'm a sucker for the customer!  Its back in stock and available on my website!

the Norah chandeliers are PERFECTION... I love these and have worn them dozens of times since they arrived on my doorstep! Priced under $50...these are a great gift for a girlfriend or a treat to yourself... put them on with my very favorite mary margaret ring shown below... I wore this ring EVERY Single day last summer!!!  Love it...

and last but not least the glue that holds it all together!! This palm springs scarf is amazing... its got the colors and makes the pink OK if you're not much of a risk taker. If you don't own this scarf, you are missing out.  I was in the grocery store the other day and saw someone wearing it, I pulled mine out and wore it the next day... its too cute to sit in my closet!

Is there a color combo that pops into your head that you'd love to pair together but just aren't sure? Google the colors, you'll be so surprised what you will find.  Color is fun, don't be afraid to try fun combinations.  Its super easy especially if you have a closet full of black or neutrals... throw in a bright and get a whole new look!  Have a super fun weekend and CHEERS!!! TGIF!

Living the dream....

Have you ever just looked around and thought, wow this is it?! This is the MY life, the one I get.  Am I doing everything possible to make it the best it can be? Am I appreciating my kids while they are little?  Not sweating the small stuff, because after all, it is all small stuff! Calling mom everyday because you are lucky enough to have her still?  I'm sure like me, the answer to most of these is NO.  Its been an interesting couple of weeks... cancer, deaths, power outages, snow, car accidents, babies being born, new pregnancies being announced...so much "news" daily, both good and bad.
The news of a best friend having breast cancer or a friends father dying suddenly, or the news of chemo just not working anymore, or a 100 car pile up, in a snow storm.  It never ends.  At the end of the day, this is your life.  This news that keeps the phone ringing or the email blowing up is LIFE...take time to breath it all in.  Mourn death, and hold onto life.... its so easy to sit here and "say" it but really think about it.  Its out of our control... we have no choice but to deal with what comes our way.  So read this and think, How can I make the most out of what was handed to me today and do it.  Start every day being thankful and end every day being thankful...this is your life, you get one.  Live it.
A little deep from your Silent stylist, yep but I am real... I'll bring you fashion fun later... until then...smooch!

10,000 savings....well kindof!

When these things come across my computer, I always get a good laugh and then try to think of creative ways for you to spend what you "didn't have" to spend.  With that said, here goes, maybe my best look for less yet!!

How gorgeous is this gold necklace?!!

ok fine, its 2 gold necklaces... can you tell which one is over $10,000??
Yeah, I didn't think so....
if you said this (the one with the toggle clasp) then you are right!! $10875... how crazy is that?
WHEN you get get almost the same look (literally had a hard time telling them apart)
The Christina Link by Stella & Dot is one of my favs... Its perfect alone
or layered up!
how ever prefer to wear it, you don't have to spend 10K... your welcome!!

ok I did break down the savings and its $10796...
and I couldn't stop there...with the difference you could buy this...

My golden rule will not be tarnished!!!

So, you are probably wondering what this picture is all about?! For those who have read, maybe you've figured it out.  I did this trend which means I personally can't do it again...I'm one and done with trends like this.  I repeat... my golden rule of fashion.  If I wore it the first time it was in style, I am probably too old to wear it again.

First thing yesterday, this picture was smack on the front page of an email from one of my favorite websites.  I GASPPPPPPED... Niko probably thought I read horrific news, nope, just got an email containing one of the worst fashion trends of our time! I confess I wore it in the late 80's, they were Guess, and they were ADORABLE, I was like 16.  This would be cute on a 16 year old or a 2 year old, I'd prefer to see it on a toddler just sayin!  I'm not proud that I wore overalls but I'm honest so I confess.  I also spotted a pair at Target yesterday so this trend is LARGE and in charge.... YIKES... I challenge all of you to prove me wrong... All 23 of my followers, Speaking of my followers, can you guys help a sister out?!!! 23 followers????? Ok, sorry, Prove me wrong.  Make it cute and email me a picture.... directly to my mailbox.... silentstylistblog@gmail.com  .... I'll be waiting!!!!  You have a better chance of seeing me in a crop top!!!

just because they sell it doesn't mean you should wear it!!!

Yikes have I got a story for you.... check back later.... I'm gonna need some time so I don't just blurt out exactly whats on my mind!!!! See you later today....

Its for sure an addiction!

If you opened my makeup drawers, bins, boxes, bags your jaw would hit the floor. Its an issue, its not normal, I am addicted...to products!  It started in my 20's with MAC lip glasses...I've always had an issue with lip gloss and they are always pinkish nude.  Thats the kicker, they all look the same!! Now I buy the nude lipstick and liner to match....anything from NYC to Chanel,  I own it all. In June of 2005 when Niko and I got married, I yearned for JLO's GLOW, after she started it.  The girl who did my makeup was AMAZING... I was dewey, exactly the look I wanted.  Today I its Kim Kardashian's makeup I'm dying to duplicate.  This look is PERFECTION if you ask me!
]
her skin is flawless.  At night while I try to fall asleep, I watch tutorial after tutorial to perfect this look.  For those of you who know me and see me on a daily basis, are you laughing yet?!  99% of the time I am completely make-up-less!
With that said, I'm going to master it, and I'm going to do it for CHEAP!  Then, if I love it, I will spend for my beloved high end products....
The highlight and contour...thats what its called. I'm over 40, should I use liquid or powder? Bronzer or dark foundation? Fingers or brushes? These are all the crazy things that are running through my head.  So i've bought a few inexpensive products to get the look going and I'm going to share them with you here...
for the contour I bought Maybelline fit
me shine free foundation stick in 330 (looks like bronzer)...available at any drugstore $6.99
next I'm going to blend it with the ELF studio stipple brush (looks just like the MAC one) I got it at target for $3!!!
I swear by NARS orgasm blush and have it on hand but if you want that look for less, you can try ELF twinkle pink for $3!!! Its the best dup yet!!!

and for your highlighter and NYC sun and bronze ($4.99)... I added this picture to show you the amazing gloss by NYC as well... I kid you not, on my wedding day, I had a bag full of MAC and the girl who did my makeup sent one of my Bridesmaids to CVC to buy NYC U57 (I think its under $3!)...I will never forget it as long as I live, they since changed the packaging and this is the color above... very similar to Nars orgasm gloss...
the rest, eyes, and foundation, I am using what I have in my bag, bucket, drawer etc!!!
I'll let you know how it goes... and I'm gonna need a hot date for this look, so someone let Niko know....
I'm hoping to have this glow allllll spring long!!!!
a gal can dream ... Have a great weekend....TGIF!!!
oh and by the way.... you'll need something to store all of your fun new makeup and brushes in...
I'm in love with Stella & Dot poufs!!!  At 3 for $60, you might as well stock up!!! Here is my favorite but it comes in tons of fun patterns!!
